Biography:
Matt Kane is a percussionist and drum set artist currently performing around NYC.
Originally from Hannibal, Missouri where he began his career playing in pop bands
at age fifteen, Kane moved to Kansas City on a scholarship to the University of
Missouri Conservatory of music. There he became one of the top drummers on the
KC jazz scene performing with many great artists like: Ahmad Alaadeen, Kevin Mahogany,
Karrin Allyson, Ida McBeth, Roy Ayers, the Sons of Brazil and Mike Metheny. He
also led his own group which the Grand Emporium and KC Star noted as the best
young band of the city. Upon relocating to NYC in '97, Kane studied at the New
School Jazz Program, through which he was noticed by brazilian pianist Jovino
Santos Neto. Kane performed with Santos-Neto and became deeply involved with Brazilian
and Afro-Cuban music. Taking to the congas and djembe, Kane is now working as
a percussionist and has performed at the following clubs in NYC: Arshile, Ludlow
Bar, Dorsia, the Canal Room, Tiki Room, Barmacy, the Blue Note, Arthur's and many
others.
