Welcome to The Spot,
a bi-monthly (or completely randomly) NYC e-zine published by Funk
This Entertainment, Manhattan's premier event planning company.
-------------------
Well
here we are, finally sending The Spot
your way in the new year. If you have no idea who we are or simply forgot,
here's a quick explanation to make sure you still want to receive our
updates.
The Spot, first and foremost, is a way for us to announce
any developments at Funk This - mainly new Manhattan venues and event
planning services for the personal and corporate party planner. Secondly,
we like to spice up our newsletters by including various useful and completely
worthless bits - news, advice, cartoon characters, odd photos, you name
it. Why this unorthodox format? We like the not-so-corporate
approach and we know you appreciate it.
The last time you heard from us was at the end of December
with our predictions
for 2005 and an introduction to our New Year's Eve side project. The
side project kept growing and in the end got us props from The Washington
Post, USA Today, Metro and WOR 710 AM -- you can read all about it by
visiting
the Press section.
This year, our focus shifts to venue selection: making it easier
to find any type of venue for any occasion under any budget restrictions
-- luxury lofts, spacious nightclubs, laid-back pubs, high-end cruises,
etc. We will be devoting the next 3 months to this new endeavor that will
hopefully launch in the summer. For this reason, we may not send The
Spot regularly but we can only promise to keep you in
the loop as often as possible, even with the smallest update. Either way,
you can always e-mail us at bookings@funkthisentertainment.com
regarding any venues you are looking for as we work closely with over
20 locations. Finally, please be wise and add felix@funkthisentertainment.com
to your Address Book; we want to make sure you always receive our correspondence.
Thank you again for your support of Funk This and scroll down to enjoy
the latest issue of The Spot.
Welcome back,

--- Happenings ---
From April 18th to April 24th, experience
yet again the Allure-sponsored Spa
Week in New York. Don't miss out on those $50 treatments!
Sure, you've heard all about Monty Python's Spamalot, but have you visited
the website?
This Saturday, April 16th, get trashed in style at the
World Beer Festival
- Brewtopia - at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
Fans of jazz can check out this week's special feature at Dizzy's Club
of Frederick P. Rose Hall (Lincoln Center) -- Kenny Barron Festival --
playing until Sunday, April 17th.
On April 19th, the 4th installment of DeNiro's Tribeca
Film Festival begins downtown.
--- Food ---
Deion Sanders takes on George Foreman: The
Deion Sanders Hot Dog Express
--- Dating ---
Once again, how to solve all relationship issues; Steve Bing, much like
Kobe, does right. Now would it be the same if it wasn't a Rolex?
--- Shopping ---
Get your hands on "If
The Glove Don't Fit, You Must Acquit" commemorative T-shirt.
Let's hope THIS ONE fits...
--- TV ---
You might have heard of Jay-Z's ex-partner Damon Dash,
the entrepreneur behind Roc-a-fella Records and Films; now he looks to
give Donald Trump some "competition" in the reality arena --
"The
Ultimate Hustler" (no joke with the title here) comes to
BET pretty soon. Can getting fired be painful in more than one way? You
bet - Damon announces each firing by "yanking Roc-A Fella gold chains
off the necks of the losers." Good luck with that one...
Wellbutrin-XL - we are sure you've seen the commercials
for this anti-depressant here and there, but boy did we make a discovery
the other day. Remember the scorching hot prostitute (and Catherine Zeta-Jones
look-alike) with whom Tom Cruise enjoyed steamy moments on the beach in
The Firm? Well we really really think this is her in
2005; she was in the TV commercial and now we've found
her on the drug's official website.
--- Tech ---
It's not that hard at all: how to steal a good
ol' wireless connection.
You've probably heard of this new cell phone study that surveyed the 15-35
age range worldwide about their mobile use. Now we know that 15%
of Americans put lovemaking on hold if someone calls their cell phone
-- a startling figure -- but perhaps this is a testament to how much bad
sex is really taking place. If we make this assumption, we can deduce
that Germans are having more bad sex (22%) than Americans but the best
sex resides in Italy, where the figure is only 7%. However, we can see
how our theory on Germans may be flawed; they may just be having more
sex AT work, hence the obligation to answer.
--- Jobs ---
Just how much does being attractive help in the current job market? Fed
Reserve breaks it down.
--- Music ---
Thanks to Akon's sped-up
anthem for the brokenhearted -- "Lonely," Bobby
Vinton returns to the Top 40 rotation as one of the chipmunks!
Daft Punk is back! Check out the futuristic
video for "Robot Rock." The intro sounds like it took a
sample or two from Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out."
--- Politics ---
It's amazing what politicians can learn from athletes these days.
Don't think for a second that the members of the Russian Parliament weren't
inspired by the Pistons/Pacers
brawl in 2004 -- we can't get enough of Vladimir Zhirinovsky's Ron Artest-like
moves. See
the video for yourself.
--- Sports ---
Charles Barkley has finally released his 2nd book, "Who's Afraid
of a Large Black Man?" Seeing Charles on The Tonight Show a
few days ago made us realize he's still one of the coolest figures in
all of sports. Here's an interview
in which Charles discusses his latest endeavor...
