Dear Member of the Funk This Family, welcome to The Spot, a weekly NYC e-zine published by Funk This Entertainment, Manhattan's premier event planning company.

If you haven't made the most of your summer, there is still time to have fun out there. While most of us plan on either partying with the Republicans or laying low during the upcoming GOP Convention (some of you might also protest), some of us might want to take advantage of the ongoing Summer Restaurant Week and this weekend's Central Park Film Festival.

If you're looking to get a head start on partying, Close-Up Toothpaste is hosting the last event of its Kiss This Club Tour tonight, Thursday, August 26th, at Club Spirit with the legendary DJ Kid Capri.

Spirit is located on 530 West 27th Street.

Music: We're excited to announce that U2 will release their 11th album this November. The new single, "Vertigo," hits radio on September 24th. Dave Matthews Band released something this Tuesday as well, exclusively in the state of Illinois.

Everyone who is a fan of cool t-shirts should own a Busted one. We visited their website, BustedTees.com, to find such designs as "Jersey Girls Ain't Trash, Trash Gets Picked Up" and "Kenya Dig It?."

Animals: We are big fans of animals around here, as they constantly make the biggest headlines by being even more unpredictable than humans. This week, the Bear managed to gulp down 36 cans of beer while the Cat re-defined the meaning of terror in flight. Meow Mix Foods also hit 5th Avenue this week with the Cat Cafe, a hands-on event for cat owners that has been garnering as much media attention as the Republican Convention.

Weddings Carry The Magic: Both sexes have always been preaching that the best place to meet someone is at a wedding. In an attempt to clarify exactly why a wedding is the prime arena for eventual hook-ups, AskMen.com recently created a Top 10 tip-sheet on the matter.

-Best Damn News Bits, Period-

Enjoy the last weekend of August,
