Welcome to The Spot, a weekly
NYC e-zine published by Funk
This Entertainment, Manhattan's premier event planning company.
Two orders of business today before we move on to the weekly features
from The Spot: Durex and Halloween.
So Durex, currently celebrating 75 years of great sex (WOW!), decided
to roll out a cool little survey about its craft, little as in reaching
350,000 people in 41 countries. The findings are incredible, to say the
least. We highly recommend that you peruse
the whole report but here are our favorite highlights:
- Sex education is taught earliest in Germany (average of 11.3 years)
- J. Lo and Britney are found sexier in Vietnam and India than in the
US
- Men CLAIM to spend more time on foreplay than women, winning out 20.2
- 18.8 (average minutes that is) globally
- The British spend the most time on foreplay (average of 22.5 minutes)
- A separate study found that 1%
of the world is asexual
We can now move on to Halloween but have to break the sour news that your
boss is probably watching you right now...
The
Good Stuff
Money:
The Notorious B.I.G. teamed up with Mase and P. Diddy
in 1997 to tell the world why "Mo Money" meant "Mo Problems."
Though not in song, AskMen's
Mr. Mafioso revisits the issue in 2004 with a more constructive approach.
Happenings: CMJ
Music Marathon 2004 is in town until Saturday night. You can catch
the best performers you never heard of at various Manhattan locations:
"on the merits of music and nothing else." Sounds refreshing.
Alcoholic Alert (AA) : Beer aficionados flock to Beer
on the Pier 2004 on Saturday in order to sample the world's best brews.
Drive
safe, they say.
The Amex and NBC-sponsored Tribeca
Theater Festival, originating from the same people (you know who)
as the Film Fest, begins next Tuesday with a full schedule of shows and
celebrity hosts for its Downtown Plays series.
Print: New York Magazine,
under the direction of new editor-in-chief Adam Moss, launched its new
look in this week's issue with The
Strategist, a guide that promises to appeal to every New Yorker.
Shopping: Say goodbye to
scissors. CouponCabin.com
has 1820 coupons available as of today. From Target to Barnes & Noble
to Dell, the site has all the goodies ready to go.
Make sure to check out the latest product inspired by the works of Martha
Stewart, Camp Cupcake.
Music: You may have seen
Christina Aguilera posing as a sexy nurse, police officer and school teacher
in her recently released Skechers'
advertisements. Too
hot for print, says the Center for Nursing Advocacy. Certainly not
too hot for The Spot...we're enchanted.
The ubiquitous Jamie Foxx has signed a record
deal with J Records. The man who started his career on the hit show
In Living Color as the luscious Wanda describes his upcoming
album as contemporary R&B. His all-star concert tribute to Ray Charles
airs October 22nd on CBS.
World: Vladimir and Georgy
Porgy agreed to raise the rent of the United States' ambassador to Russia.
Turns out the diplomat was living the life for less than $3/year!
Tech: Rumors circulated
around the Web this week regarding Apple's
Photo I-Pod, which apparently is lined up for a secret holiday release.
Nintendo's new DS portable system should also see the light of day around
November.
